Assignment 6

Finally, the last assignment.
This time, we have to play around with the words.
I don't really listen to lots of english pop songs, so I pick a cheer instead.
Word type "Impact" is choosed because cheer should be something impact and full of strength. For fever, there's an ice bag on it.
For hot, it's on fire.
The front goes to the front, and the back is a butt. Ahhh and Uhhh is echo.
Any suggestion on how to improve it?

Assignment 5 - Mid Autumn Festival Postcard

So, the assignment this week is a celebration card. Initially the idea was to use Japan's Boys Day as my theme. And here's my sketch.
But I find it a bit difficult to color the fish ==.
So I try another concept - the Mid Autumn Festival. So with Illustrator, I add the background and transform it into cg. Here's the outcome. And lastly the color combination. Playing around with different color.

Hope you like it. =)

Feal Appeal - Poster Assignment

The assignment for this week is feal appeal poster. We should create strong fear feeling to our audience so that the health campaign promotion will be effective.

This is my second idea because the first one is way tooooo disgusting. So i change into the "worm eating" idea. Supposingly you do not boil your water, there might be worms in the water and you drink them. So the total idea is to create awareness among people about the importance of boiling the water before you drink.

So the photos below is the original one.I purposely choose red color cup to attract the attention to that particular part - the worms. The color saturation of the girl is reduced so as to create a "pale looking" character.

Thank you for reading. =)

In-class Practice - Fear Appeal

Again, a quick practice after lecture.
So this time we were given "superior" and have to come out with simple sketch using at most 2 colors.
Moritz and me decided to represent the word using a condition where we usually see in the movie - a muscular guy threatening a skinny man. And the face of the bad guy actually faces the reader to create a sense of fear, and the skinny man look up at him. The image is meant to draw from low angle to show the superiority of the bad guy.
Please bear with the lousy graphic - no scanner for now, using webcam to "scan" it.

In-class Practice - Indexical & Iconic

We are told to use iconic to represent the thing we choose.
So Moritz and me planned to choose pencil as our subject at first, however we found it rather difficult to represent pencil in just some simple lines yet outstanding and appealing. As you can see from the sketch above, the outcome is just an ordinary images where we can see everywhere.

So we decided to do on drinking coffee instead. The full image would be one person sitting there and drinking coffee, so we try to simplify it(the cup image on the right of the man), but it looks ambiguous - is it a symbol to warn people that there is HOT WATER around? After some refinement, we agreed on the man below(with a red tick), it is simple enough yet meaningful.

Assignment 3

This assignment is about using 8 photos(without words) to describe a story.
At first i am planning to seek the help from my friends to be my model. Below is my sketch. You can see i try to use all the technique taught in the lecture: rule of third, S-curve, high and low angle, Fibonacci rule.

However the outcome is not that encouraging. So I decided to redo it using dolls. Here's the outcome:
Hope you like it. =)

Assignment 2

We have to come out with our own business card. So I choose to run a business of studio.
I decided not to do abstraction of a camera, which might give other false impression that I am going to run a business on selling camera equipment.
So I asked my friends to be my model. Thanks to Yi Seng and Xin Ying for be my model. =)

The image is loaded onto photoshop and go through abstraction process until only outline is left.
Finally, make it a business card.
